Interlude, Part 8

Posted on Thu Dec 31st, 2020 @ 2:10am by Ensign Evelyn Moro & Lieutenant Aemilia "Millie" Stepanova

Mission: Shore Leave

Millie half-jogged her way across the lobby and to the counter. "Excuse me," she half-gasped to the hotel employee, "I'm trying to locate a Ms--"

The Bolian behind the desk looked up from his work. "I'm sorry?"

Millie caught her breath. "I'm trying to locate Ms. Evelyn Moro. Could you tell me what room she's in?"

He quickly typed into his system. She was in room 237. But she checked out." He gave a small laugh. "Actually records indicate you missed her by just a few minutes."

Millie gave a soft cry of frustration. "Oh no! I was hoping that she was still here!" She turned, looking out across the lobby, hoping Evelyn was still in the building.

"Your best bet would be to check the transport hub."

"Thank you!" Millie dashed out the door as if a rabid targ was on her heels.

The outside of the hotel was picturesque as dozens of people had their luggage loaded onto transports to take them to the shuttlesport and their next destinations.

Evelyn nodded her thanks as a tall Andorian as he loaded her bags. When he asked if she enjoyed her stay she gave a polite nod. "It's a beautiful city."

Millie ran onto the platform, her eyes scanning the crowd as best as she could. She stepped up onto a bench, hoping to get a higher view of the crowd.

Evelyn took one last look around and caught eyes with Millie about thirty yards away.

"Miss? We're ready to board."

Millie's voice caught in her throat, but her lips still formed the words. "Wait..."

Evelyn looked back at the man who nodded. She seemed to steel herself and began walking towards Millie.

Millie quickly closed the distance, pushing her way through the crowd. "I'm sorry," her voice squeaked out once she was close.

"You don't have to apologize. Things happen. I'm glad you're okay."

Millie shook her head. "We made plans, and I disappeared telling you where I was going." She reached out and took one of Evelyn's hands. "I am sorry. You deserve better than that."

"Where did you go?"

"There was an emergency with a private counseling client. He has--" Millie sighed. "He has some issues with boundaries in his relationships, and working with him can be, well...daunting." She reached down and took the woman's hand. "But you deserve better than me running off without a word, and I'm sorry."

Before Evelyn could reply the Andorian yelled over. "I think its time for us to go. If there's not room for your bags we'll hold them."

"I have to go to Moscow for the rest of my shore leave. I have a guest room in my apartment..." Millie let the sentence trail off as she gave Evelyn's hands a squeeze.

"Oh. I've got to go back to San Francisco for a few days to implement some of these conference ideas." She looked down at their hands. "Can I stop by in a few days?"

Millie smiled and nodded. "Da." She gave a relieved sigh. "I'll...send you the address."

Evelyn looked to the Andorian, then back to Millie. "Do that." She leaned in and gave Millie a quick kiss before heading back to the transport.
