Family Time

Posted on Sat Jan 9th, 2021 @ 9:42am by Commander Brielle Jayde

Mission: Shore Leave
Location: Brielle's Quarters / Earth Surface
Timeline: Set after Evaluation Post (still pending)

Brielle attempted to finish the packing she was doing. She and the kids were going on a picnic for part of their shore leave. However, packing while two kids were running around wanting to play jungle gym, the packing process was near impossible. But, it had to be done. The replicator was waiting for her to hit the command to create the preprogrammed meal, which she was glad she thought to do that ahead of time.

Typically, she would a have made it herself, and wouldn't have dreamed of replicating it. This was one of those times she was glad for the technology.

"Momma, can we go yet," came her son's voice. He was just standing there, watching his sister more than anything.

Sighing softly, Brie realized Ossan sounded sad and finally sat down, waving him over. "What's wrong?"

Once Ossan has climbed up onto his mother's lap, he laid his head against her shoulder, tiny arms wrapping around her. "I don't know them," is all he whispered.

This being the first time he'd shown any anxiety about anything, she frowned and wrapped her own arms around him while Aysel ran around as little ones do. "This is my sisters and their sons, they are family. You don't have to worry about anything. Now, do you remember what I said about one of my sisters?"

"She..." he thought for a moment, and by that time, Aysel had come over, babbling, climbing onto the couch. After a bit, "looks like you?" His head turned towards the picture of Brielle and her twin sister Alina.

"That's right. Though, that is an old picture, she and I have both grown up and had kids, like you and Aysel," she said, tickling him a little. The fact that he smiled and giggled helped. "Besides, we get to celebrate mommy and your aunt getting promotions, right?"

Nodding, Ossan gave her a squeeze and hopped down. He was obviously still nervous but was trying to be tough. This was going to be hard, as Alina's son was just younger than Ossan, while Melany's was oldest. Watching Ossan take Aysel's hand to help her down off the couch, she was glad he was such a caring big brother.

The moment the transporter finished rematerializing them, Ossan and Aysel ran through the grass of the picnic location. She saw two blondes up head of her, and two boys sitting and playing among themselves. Hearing the sound of giggling, they women looked over to see two tiny kids running at them.

"Brie, over here!" Melany stated and then realized Brie's hands were full and came over to help with some of the food. "I think you made to much there, sis."

Glad for the help, Brie laughed, "You know me, used to feeing a small army," she nodded towards her kids, who had sat down in the grass near the other two boys. "Figured you'd both beat me down there."

Once they both got over to the picnic area too, Erik, Melany's son, came over. "Can we all go to the playground?"

Melany and Alina nodded, as did Brie, "Watch Aysel, she's not going to be able to keep up with you bigger kids." Erik smiled and went and scooped Aysel up, then reached out for Ossan's hand. Milo, Alina's son, grabbed onto Ossan's hand. "Quite the son you've got there, Mel."

Shrugging slightly, Melany laid out the food. "He's the oldest kid on the ship, so he babysits a lot. He likes to do the older brother thing even though he has no siblings. Damien and I have talked about it but, plans changed."

Alina smirked, "You could say that. You haven't told her yet, have you?"

"Oy, neither have you, Ali!"

Looking between the two after watching the kids for a moment, Brielle raised an eyebrow. "I feel like I've missed something here. I know about Ali's promotion...and her about mine but..."

Melany slid a PADD over that she'd brought with her. "You'll have to tell her the other news on your own, Ali." Taking the PADD, Brie read it over and her eyes went wide.

"Wait, what?" She looked back to Melany. "Mel, you made Captain?! Since when? And you have a ship too?"

"About a month ago, but ship is still being built. My crew is all picked out and are enjoying shore leave, just like we are. Normally, I'd have asked you two but you know that wouldn't work."

Brielle hugged her older sister tightly, "Congrats, Mel. You deserve it. I did wonder how long they'd make you sit with all your command experience." She then sat back down and started in on plates for Aysel and Ossan, eying her twin sister. "Okay, Ali, spill the beans. I know you made First Lieutenant, chief engineer. What am I missing here?"

Unable to contain it anymore, Alina adjusted how she was sitting, and again Brielle's eyes went wide. "You get to be aunt to another two here soon."

"Twins? Ali!" Moving over and giving a tight, but not too tight, hug to her sister, Brie just shook her head. "I didn't know you and Jareth were trying. When are you due?"

Ali shrugged only a little, "We really weren't. It just sort of happened. When I heard twins, I wasn't sure I was ready for two more mouths on top of Milo. But, we've figured it all out, even with my chief engineer spot." She adjusted how she was sitting, watching the kids come running back, all still holding hands. "As for when I'm due? That's why I'm on leave, any time now. I'm surprised you couldn't tell when you came over."

"Well," Brielle started as she gave each of her kids something off their plates when they arrived, "You were sitting at just the right angle. I have some of Aysel and Ossan's baby clothes if you need them."

"I might take you up on that," Alina stated as she dug into her own food, Milo sitting next to her digging into his own. "I've got one of each coming."

Brielle could only laugh and shake her head. "Looks like the Jayde family just keeps getting bigger." She sat back and munched on a carrot, seeing Erik helping the other three kids again. "You should still try, Melany. Even with your own command. Starfleet is pretty forgiving about stuff like that, give you proper leave. And if you picked a good first officer, they can command when necessary."

Melany watched her son and just smiled. "We decided we're still going to try, just not too hard. Erik has been asking for a brother or sister for a while now. He gets why its hard to have that right now but..." She sighed softly and that's when Erik spoke up.

"Whenever is fine with me, mom, I told you that."

Nodding, Melany turned back to the twins. "I doubt mom and dad expected any of this. Their three daughters: a captain, and two department chiefs. If they weren't off on some silly adventure they'd be here. But, joys of retirement."

The rest of the afternoon was spent with the children playing on the playground and in the grassy field they were picnicking on. The three Jayde sisters just watched, talking about whatever they could think of as they hadn't been together like this for a while, and weren't sure when they would be again.
