Mission: Side Stories
Location: Counselors office

Well, it was that time. It had to be done. Unfortunately, it was ordered so there was no way to get out of it. She approached the Counselor's office not willingly. The door chime rang.

Millie set aside her PADD on the table next to one of her comfortable chairs. "Enter," she called out, standing.

Caressa stepped through the door. "Greetings Counselor, I am reporting as ordered." Wondering if she should sit, stand, crawl on the floor. She really shouldn't be this uncomfortable.

Caressa's discomfort was noticeable, and Millie attempted to give a reassuring smile. "Please, come in. Have a seat." She gestured to the other chair set up in the room.

She sat in the chair but not without some trepidation. She took a deep breath. "Ok, lets get this going. What do you need to know?"

"Relax," she said with a soft chuckle as she seated herself again. "I haven't seen all of you in a year, so I'm checking in with the senior staff, and meeting the new crew." She settled back into her chair and folded her hands in her lap. "How have you been, Caressa? We didn't get much time to catch up at the wedding."

"Better" I had a small blow up at the BBQ. It needed to happen though. I could not keep it in forever. Since then its been good. The kids had a blast with Henry. I got some much needed me time. I even talked with Henry and Edra last night. I decided to leave the children on earth. I did not feel like I could keep them in harms way. I think that about sums it up." She put it all out there. She smiled and looked back at Millie.

Millie gave a soft chuckle. "Well, that's one way to put the last year's worth of events into a minute." She gave a gentle smile. "So you and the children had a good time on shore leave, yes?"

"Wonderful time actually. They go much needed time with their father. I got time with them and my Uncle. It was nice to relax and not have utter chaos at my feet." crossing her legs and getting a bit more relaxed.

"How did that go? Did the children all get along?"

" It was a bit rough at first, a little rough play, but by the end of shore leave they were inseparable."

Millie's hands folded in her lap. "How are the children handling the distance from their father? Have they...expressed any feelings about not being aboard the ship with him?"

"They have but I will not bring them aboard. They are far safer with my Uncle than on board here. So do not even suggest that they come."

Millie put up a hand. "Oh, no, I wouldn't have suggested it. But I know that it can be difficult to be separated from parents."

"Good glad we have that straight" relaxing a bit.

Millie nodded. "Do they...have they expressed any emotion about the fact that Henry has his other children on the ship, but not them?"

" Oh yes, but they will just have to deal with it. I would rather have them alive and healthy and disappointed than have them here and in danger."

"It is not always as easy as 'just have to deal with it', Caressa." The counselor's hands folded in her lap. "Children do not always understand the dangers that face them on a starship. What they may focus on most is the fact that they are there, and their parents are here. And, as best as intentions may be, we want to make sure that they are impacted as little by the separation as possible."

"Never said it was going to be easy, they are with family and that is what is important." just on time she got a call from sick bay. "Melanick here!" +"Doc we need you in sickbay, it seems we have an outbreak of something in the daycare center"+ " I will be right there, Melanick out"

"Sorry Counselor, seems I have been saved.. oops I mean called back to work" She rose and headed out the door. "We will have to continue this conversation later" Her voice trailing as she went. Muttering to herself. "Thank god"
