Mission: Shore Leave
Location: Cargo Bay 1
Timeline: 3 Days into Shoreleave

"...and with that I welcome you aboard. Now let's get to work, won't be long until we ship out again. Dismissed."

Henry watched the newcomers relax their posture and go along their way headed to their departments or quarters. They were taking on nearly two dozen new crew members which was always a challenge but they seemed to come well regarded.

As the other beings left, Dived straightened his uniform and checked his pips for probably thousandth time that day. He was accustomed to wearing his jumpsuit as it was more suited for his duties. A uniform was something an officer wore, he derailed his train of thought when he realized that he was an officer now and Chief Engineer at that. He was going to have to get used to the formalities that his new position entailed. Part of him wished he was back at McKinley Station but he couldn’t pass up the opportunities his new role provided him. There were so many new technologies to be discovered out there and now he would be able to take part in their development.

Dived suddenly realized that he was now standing alone with the Captain staring at him. He thought quickly and out stretched his hand, “I’m, uh, Lieutenant Dumet, sir. It seems that I, uh, have been assigned as your Engineering Chief."

Henry shook his hand. "Lieutenant, I can tell you that you have plenty of work ahead of you. Our last little jaunt included getting more than a few scratches but you're inheriting a good staff."

Good, Dived loved it when he had something to work on, especially when it involved a work of engineering art like the Akira class. “I haven’t had a chance to read the the mission reports, I was busy memorizing the Mercutio’s technical data. May I ask what happened to her?”

"We got into a skirmish with another ship loaded with Klingon, Cardassian, Romulan, and Ferengi weaponry. It did a number on the ship when the shields were having a hard time keeping up."

Dived thought for a second, “With your permission Captain, I believe I have a way to modify the shield emitter to boost its performance by 3% by reworking the power regulators. This will increase it’s recharge rate in order to strengthen them as well as decrease the time it will take to bring them online.”

Henry nodded. "I look forward to seeing what else you come up with."

Dived gave a wicked smile, “I will make sure the Mercutio is full of surprises by the time we pull out of dock, sir.”

"If you'll excuse me Lieutenant, I have to get to a long scheduled meeting with the XO."
