A Conversation

Mission: Shore Leave
Location: Zoane Educational Conference

While the crew sat at lunch, Gahs who sat at the head of the table could feel someone standing behind him. It was Professor Vellis, a Vulcan Ambassador who taught a course in Early Pre-Federation history. At this conference, he and Evan got into a row over some of the content that Evan had first account knowledge of. At the time, Evan surmised that Vellis was not pleased with Evan's arguments.

"Lieutenant, may I speak with you," Vellis asked. "I apologize to take you away from your friends."

Evan looked over and noticed crew mates were occupied with their various conversations. He excused himself to his colleagues and stepped away from his meal.

"First, I'd like to apologize for my behavior in class," Evan stated. "I hope it didn't disturb you."

"On the contrary," Vellis said. "It did at first but then I had surmised something about you that I hadn't expected Lieutenant."

"What's that?"

"You are a temporally displaced person."

"Incorrect. But a good guess." Evan smiled.

"Humans are not known for their long lives, Lieutenant."

"I am not fully human, Ambassador. I am half El-Aurian."

A wash of the Vulcan's acknowledgment and familiarity came to Evan's mind. "My father lived on Earth and me, and my brothers were born just after the founding of the Federation. Roughly twenty years to be exact."

"Intriguing, so you have witnessed much of what I covered in today's lecture."

"Yes, but my memory is a bit muddled considering I was very. However, President Archer or Admiral Archer was pretty much a ubiquitous persona growing up. His adventures in space were both embellished and truthful. But the nice part was that he and his crew were still alive to filter it all out."

"Which is why you were able to correct me about what happened on P'Jem."

"Exactly, Archer's original intent was not to expose the Vulcan Listening post but rather to give his science officer a chance to see her people. The rest happened as a fluke of happenstance," Evan said.

"I would like us to stay in contact. I have much to ask you. IF that is acceptable to you."

"You mean stay in contact? Sure. I'd love to," Evan replied. "I am on the Mercutio. I'll do my best to answer any questions you may have."

"Thank you."

After a few moments of conversation. Evan returned his crewmates who were raising toasts to the ship. The future, for Evan at least, seemed brighter.
