Private Eyes

Mission: Magic Mirror
Location: Personal Quarters

Through the mirror of my mind
Time after time, I see reflections of you and me
Reflections of the way life used to be
Reflections of the love you took from me

Evelyn plopped onto the couch with an exhausted sigh. She had no idea that her big shore leave purchase would have been so heavy. She'd always been hesitant to ask for help because it was assumed she needed it due to her size, or worse, her gender. She had not asked the Captain for his assistance but it was clear when he exited the lift he was going to help and truth be known he'd made it a lot easier on her.

The shore leave had been just what the doctor ordered. She and Millie had hit nearly a dozen areas with little stays here and there. Waterfalls in the Amazon, ancient temples in Asia, and all sorts of tourist attractions. She'd been lying if she didn't say the couple nights they spent in a solitary cabin wasn't her favorite though. She passed to the kitchen and collected some hot tea from the replicator before sitting down again.

She looked at the large mirror and it's gleaming silver frame and stand. When she laid eyes on it in a little out of the way shop in Madrid she just had to have it It nearly called to her. It didn't help that she truly never thought she'd seen such a perfect reflection of herself. To top it all off was the deal she got on it. She had expected it to be an expensive purchase but the man who ran the shop barely haggled with her before agreeing to her lowball offer. There was something kind about him as if he was happy she wanted it. Sipping her tea, she glanced at the chronometer on the wall. Millie had a few more appointments this afternoon before she'd be home.

After all the trouble Evelyn had caused a few months back with her experiment she had half expected to be transferred out if not marooned on some out of the way planet but the crew seemed to have forgiven her and Millie had been rock steady with support and love. A grin tugged at the corners of her mouth. Love was a word that had taken on a deeper meaning.

She stood and set her cup on the table before taking one last glance at herself in the mirror. Fluffing her hair a little she glanced back at the chronometer. She had time for a nap before her shift started. She turned and walks towards the bedroom.

The reflection in the mirror never took her eyes off her.
