Frustration

Posted on Mon Jun 28th, 2021 @ 3:39pm by Commander Vox Templar & Commander Brielle Jayde

Mission: Knock Knock
Location: Deck 2: Cmdr Jayde's Quarters

Brielle collapsed onto her couch. She was beyond frustrated with this whole situation, and it wasn't getting any better. If anything, it was getting a million times worse. Between the couch eating thing situation and their new security chief, she didn't want to think about work anymore. There was also the mission to think about.

The kids were already asleep, assuming so anyways based on what the babysitter said. She wanted a strong drink but knew better, for now at least. She wasn't sure if Vox was gonna come by or not. They spent so much time in each other's quarters, even the kids staying in his sometimes when she was there, that she wasn't sure who would be where.

Commander Templar walked up to Brie's door and stopped short of running into it. He looked around it, as if by doing so it would simply change its mind and open for him. He thought that she had added him to her access registry list but that was also a bold assumption. To be fair, they had spent a lot of time together lately and shouldn't that count for something?

He hit the door chime, silently bracing himself for the much needed venting session on her part. He didn't mind a bit. In the end, things would work out the way they were intended and she would feel better in the meantime discussing the issues.

Looking over towards the door, Brie raised an eyebrow. If it was Vox, the door was supposed to let him in. She'd have to get that fixed. Grumbling at the tech not working as it should, she got up and went over, opening up the door. "It is supposed to be letting you in, Vox, I'm sorry," she said quietly before stepping aside to let him come in.

His eyes lit up at the sight of her, despite the tired and frustrated look written on her beautiful face. "Don't be sorry. I'm sure engineering or security is to blame somehow," he said as he stepped into her quarters and headed straight for the replicator. He leaned his face close for the audio pickup and said, "Two vodka martinis." A moment later, the alcove lit up and two glasses filled with a chilled, clear liquid appeared. "Speaking of security..." He let the sentence drop off to allow her to tell him what was bothering her as he lifted the glasses and walked over to the couch.

Going to sit back down, she was glad for the drink he'd ordered. But at the mention of security, she put up a finger to him. "Don't. We don't wanna go down that road, Vox, trust me."

Vox smirked at her, narrowing his eyes slightly as he sipped his martini. "Are you sure that's not the road you need to drive down? He got you pretty steamed in the observation lounge."

Taking her own martini and taking a sip, Brie glared at Vox for a moment. "Are you wanting to hear me rant and rave about that guy, really?"

Templar leaned his head back as he held up his free hand defensively. "Woah, I was just offering a shoulder." He took a large sip and decided to switch tactics. "Why don't we have a few drinks, talk about something else and let the night resolve the issue appropriately?"

He locked his blue orbs onto her green diamonds as he let the rest go unsaid for a moment. He walked over and sat on the couch as he let her think about the decision.

Immediately laying her head on Vox's shoulder, Brie let out an extremely heavy sigh. "That guy pisses me off. Acting like he runs the ship. He's trying to assign the security officers off to other departments when they aren't on security duty. Without checking with the officers OR the departments. And then that disaster in the meeting!"

Vox frowned as he sipped the cold vodka. "Wait, he wants to put security officers throughout the ship?" He narrowed his eyes slightly in suspicion as Starfleet security protocols started flooding his mind. Such a tactic made sense only in an emergency situation, or when at battle stations when a ship was expecting to be boarded.

"You heard me right. He wants to have them working other departments, engineering, science, whatever the hell it is. He wants them spread throughout the ship. He also seems to want to run them ragged and doesn't take commands very well."

Vox knit his brow into another frown as he slid his free hand to rest on her thigh, his thumb rubbing her leg as he took another sip of the delicious concoction. "Security is trained to do one thing: security. What will they possibly do in other departments that would be worth a damn? Also, that would make security weak in case of an imminent attack of some kind." He started wondering if this was accurate information. Clearly, forcing security officers to do other tasks put the ship at greater risk and wouldn't provide any meaningful additional outcomes within other departments.

Brielle drank down most of her drink and let her eyes close for a moment. "And throwing someone in prison for a simple mistake? That goes against everything Starfleet stands for, regular officer, enlisted, anyone. They would know that..."

"Sometimes I think Joustra uses his 'zero shits' personality to get under the skin of other officers," he replied as he contemplated the personality of the abrasive man in question. "Just keep in mind that you're the second officer and any major changes to departments should go up the chain of command. And as far as prison is concerned, it's out of his hands. JAG handles all SCMJ violations that go beyond the scope of the captain."

"You and me both on the personality. Well, he pushed too many of my buttons today. He knows the chain of command and seems to enjoy ignoring it. I don't give a damn if he's been in longer than any of us, it doesn't give you the right to treat people like that."

Vox finished his drink, savoring the chilled liquid go down before he rose up and grasped for her empty glass before walking back to the replicator for a refill. "It's like the old saying you learned in the academy: 'you have to respect the rank even if you don't respect the person'. He has to respect your position on the ship. And since he isn't, that means you have to address it now before it rages out of control." He returned to her and sat down, handing her one of the two drinks in his hand. "You need to make a trip to security and remind him of the pecking order on this ship, Brie. Make him see eye to eye but that in the end, you're his superior officer."

Brie took back the drink but just kind of stared at it. "If his talk with Henry doesn't go over well, I'll talk to Henry myself. I've tried to talk with the man, he doesn't listen, assumes he's better than me. Assumes I have an attitude. He'll learn quick he doesn't want to mess with me if it comes to that."

He listened to her, sensing the tension in her voice over the entire situation and wanted nothing more than to be helpful but at the same time not try to 'solve' the issue for her. He knew that she was a strong leader and could handle the situation appropriately without his involvement. Raising the fresh, chilled glass to his lips, he said, "I'll pray it doesn't reach that point... for his sake." And with that, he started round two.
