Evaluation Time

Mission: Side Stories
Location: XO's Office

Brie knew it had to be coming up soon, but she'd been so focused on other things that she'd lost track. However, it was always around the same time each year: her evaluation. It wasn't something she could avoid, even as second officer. She'd done some of her own with her team, but now it was her turn.

She had to meet up with Edra, and hope that nothing bad came up.

Edra pushed a button that opened the doors when she heard the chime. She had been expecting Brie, and she smiled in greeting. "Good Morning, Commander. Please, have a seat." She pulled a PADD from her stack, which actually seemed to be dwindling lately. "How are you?" she asked with a warm smile.

"Morning, Commander. Not often you call me by my rank." Brie stated as she walked in and took one of the seats. "Eh, busy as per usual, especially at home. Guessing you are the same?"

"Never seems to slow down. Now, you know why we're here, and you know the routine. It's that time again. I've done my write-up of your performance, but before we go on, is there anything you'd like to lead with?"

Brie shook her head. "Nothing that I can think of. I do know the routine and nothing comes to mind ". She sat back a little. "Unless you know something I don't."

Edra grinned. "Of course not. But you know I do that each time. I give everyone that opportunity in case there's anything on their mind that they want to address, before anything else comes up." Pulling up the multi-page file, Edra got on with the review. "There's not really many bad things to say. As usual, your performance is wonderful. As Second Officer, you work well with the crew and seem to get along with everyone, that I can tell."

"Unless someone has an issue with me that they aren't talking about, I don't have any issues with anyone. I'm glad nothing has come up about my performance," Brie finally stated. "With two kids and being the 'tired mom', which you likely understand completely, I do worry on occasion."

The XO shook her head. "No reason to worry. You are also self motivating, follow orders, you raise concerns when you feel it's necessary without being insubordinate. Your responses to messages are punctual, you comport yourself very well on the Bridge, and as usual, you grasp the command aspect well when you captain the bridge." She handed the PADD to Brie for review. "Do you have any questions, comments, or concerns about any of these points?"

Taking the PADD, Brie looked it over. "No, no questions on any of that. Just me doing my job."

Edra nodded and smiled. "Well, you do it very well. If you are in agreement with the report, please add your thumbprint. Do you have any other questions, concerns, or complaints?"

"No other concerns or complaints," Brielle stated as she applied her thumbprint. "I don't think I ever do at these things."

"In that case, there's only one more piece of business." Edra reached for a small box on the other side of her computer and placed it in front of Brie. "With the Task Force Captain's approval, we have decided to promote your rank to full Commander. Congratulations." She finished with a warm smile.

Eyes going wide, Brielle pulled the box closer and opened it. "Wait, seriously? A full commander?" She wasn't sure what to think, as this was the last thing she expected.

"You are certainly deserving, and the Task Force leaders agreed when they saw your records and our reports."

"Thank you, Edra, seriously. I didn't think I was up for any type of promotion, so I didn't know it was coming at all."

"You're most welcome, but you did the work. This is just a small way to show it. That's all I have, so you're free to go." Edra smiled. This was one of the best perks of the job.

Brie took hold of the box, as she'd apply the new pip once she got back to her quarters, still smiling. "Thank you again, Edra. And thank Henry too. See you on the bridge later." With that, she stood up and headed up, still wrapping her head around all of this.
